I wanted to get close to wood grain, the smell of sawdust, and the smoothness of sanded corners. So I made myself a standing desk.
I bought the legs and a slab of oak, sanded and finished the top, and screwed it all together.
It wasn’t difficult, but it took a few mindful hours. I marveled at how something as simple as a piece of wood could be so fascinating.
This way I get to skip toxins in engineered wood like the glue, varnish, and other chemicals in MDF.
It’s part of the reason I want to start making more things myself: so I can know what goes in them.
One desk at a time.
